Silicon Roundabout – a suitable case for public investment?

I seem to recall that The Government and The Mayor of London have commited themselves to putting public money into the developmet of a nice new building at Old Street Roundabout as part of their post-event credit claiming for the creation of Silicon Roundabout as a ‘high-tec’ hub.

From looking at these two photographs does it really look like there is a need for a new, tax-payer funded, building?

It might look a mess, but there looks to be no need for new buildings, especially not new buildings paid for by tax-payers.

The Old Street area is already being ‘regenerated’, and I would suggested that any funding which may be available would be better spent elsewhere and on something different.
