Are Charity Shops Really a Problem

Why are charity shops in town centres and high streets thought to be a problem?  ‘We’ complain about clone-towns where the shops and their contents are the same as in every other town – yet surely charity shops, where the contents are different from branch to branch, are the antithesis of a clone town.

It is time we recognised that charity shops are the symptom not the cause, and we need to deal with the causes (and note the use of the plural here – the causes).
