There has been a £24bn slump in what UK companies have invested in innovation since 2008. As well as the state of the economy, I suggest that this is due to short-termism; too few staff, especially at the lower levels; poor management; poor recruitment practices; insufficient collaboration between firms, and lack of leadership.
